6 things Donald Trump may do which
could change the World
The
presidential race in America was seen as the most important election in the
world since the 1932 German elections that resulted into Adolf Hitler infamous
reign. No other election in the world has had the capability to overturn the
geopolitics, global economy, etc. The 2016 presidential elections ushered in a
new era where Donald Trump became the 45th president of the United
States of America. This has led to worldwide fear that many policies will
change under his reign. Donald Trump may change the relationship between
America and the rest of the world in the various ways.
1.
Will there be an end to free trade?
Donald Trump has threatened to scrap off several free trade agreements,
this includes the North American free Trade Agreement that was signed between
Mexico, Canada and the US. He blames this agreement for jobs losses. He has
also suggested that the US should withdraw from the World Trade Organization.
Since he came into power, Donald Trump has threatened companies especially
the automobile makers to burden all goods coming from Mexico with 35% tariff.
He is focusing mainly on creating more jobs for Americans, closing the trade
deficit and getting better deals for Americans. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/elections-us-2016-37918242
2.
There could be a rethought on the
Iran Nuclear accord
During the reign of President Obama, the US lifted sanctions against Iran
on the guarantee that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons. However, Donald
Trump sees this as the worst deal that America has ever negotiated. He once
said that dismantling this deal would be top on his priority list, it is not
yet clear how he intends on executing this idea. If he gets rid of this deal,
it would have a major impact on Middle East. Iran happens to be one of the key
players in the Syrian Conflict where it rivals Israel and Saudi Arabia.
There are concerns from the Iranian government with its Foreign Minister Javad
Zarif urging to Trump to maintain the accord since it was negotiated in the
presence of several world powers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/elections-us-2016-37918242
3.
We may see more nuclear weapons in
Asian countries
With Donald Trump as the President of the US, it raises security
questions in Asian countries. Donald Trump started by making comments of One
China the his Rex Tillerson (secretary of state nominee) spoke of the US blocking
China from accessing artificial islands in the South China Sea. This could
easily trigger a military clash between the US and China.
Mr. Trump has also singled out South Korea and Japan for relying heavily
on America. He even said that the two countries would benefit heavily from
owning nuclear arsenals. There is also North Korea; a country that is currently
embarks on developing nuclear weapons. He is now faced with the daunting task
of curbing these ambitions. However, it is unclear if Trump has a strategy he
intends to use to curb nuclear wars. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/elections-us-2016-37918242
4.
A revamp in the climate change
Trump has clearly stated that he within 100 days of power he will cancel
the Paris Climate Agreement. He is
also keen on reversing climate change regulations set by former President,
Obama. Trump describes the science of human-caused climate change as being
fictional. However, even if he is the President of the US he cannot change the
agreement since America is legally bounded to the agreement, which will last
for another four years. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/elections-us-2016-37918242
5.
The end of green cards
It is possible that Trump will end the “birthright citizenship” for any
child born in America to all illegal immigrants. It is likely that Trump will
deport the undocumented “residents” of America. He could also “pause” issuing
green cards and force employers to prioritize US citizens. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-elections/donald-trump-us-elections-what-president-trump-would-do-according-to-him-a6907241.html
6.
Foreign policy instability
The year 2016 has seen major events happen that will shape the global
economy these include Trump’s victory and Brexit. This could be a clear
testament that business is far from usual in the global scene. Donald’s policy
emphasizes more on interest instead of international values and norms. This will
take its toll on the US especially considering the fact that Trump has been
widely assessed in global opinion polls. Even though Trump has been keen on
denouncing major partnerships and alliances, he has conspicuously left out
Australia in all his campaigns. This gives the Australian government reason to
believe that there will be little or no changes in the ANZUS treaty. https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-11-09/experts-say-a-president-trump-will-change-the-us-and-the-world/8009504?pfmredir=sm
Conclusion
Trump’s
victory was unexpected with many hoping that Hilary Clinton would clinch the
seat; however, it did not happen. Now an unpredictable president leads the US.
We are yet to see how this will affect the economy of not only America but also
the world at large. Trump seems to be keen on overhauling most of Obama’s
achievements and policies. All we have to do now is wait and see how his four
year term will be.
